The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides a wide-range of technological services to over 13,000 state employees and the agencies for which they serve.  The selected candidate will be assigned to the ACES Operations Team, which is one of several teams within OIT’s Applications Development Division that provides applications development and support services.  The ACES Operations Team provides operational maintenance and support for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Family Independence’s (OFI) Automated Client Eligibility System (ACES).  This position is in Augusta.  Some flex scheduling may be allowed.


You will have an opportunity to work in an ever changing and fast-paced environment with a dedicated team of software developers.  You will be exposed to modern tools and technologies and will be provided with the opportunity to utilize agile methodologies to accomplish team goals and objectives.  ACES is an Oracle application.  Some of the tools and technologies that you will use include EXA Logic/EXA Data architecture, Java, SQL, Jira, and Subversion.


This is advanced technical services work involving the support and maintenance of a large and highly complex computer application.  The selected candidate will assume one of the lead technical roles on the ACES Operations Team and will be involved in all phases of the systems development life cycle to address highly complex technical and business service requests and problems.  Assigned duties will include leading, advising, and assisting other team members as needed to ensure that the team delivers quality solutions to the customer in a timely manner.  Work will be performed under limited supervision.


This position requires a professional individual who has demonstrated knowledge of the following programming languages and application development tools:

  • Java 8
  • Oracle 12c on an EXA environment
  • WebLogic 12c
  • Hibernate 5
  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • Eclipse Oxygen
  • Ajax
  • Bootstrap
  • Agile/Kanban SDLC


The preferred candidate will have demonstrated ability to define and resolve complex technical problems independently; and the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with designing, conducting and evaluating system tests is desired. Experience with application support and development in a team environment is required.

MINUMUM QUALIFICATONS:  In order to qualify, you must have two and one half (2½) years applications systems development experience utilizing a 3GL. A Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science or equivalent subject area may be substituted for one (1) year of application systems development experience.

SALARY:   CLASS CODE: 0865             PAY GRADE: 23 - ($46,883.20 - $63,460.80/annually)*

*Includes a 15% recruitment and retention salary adjustment and eligibility for a 5% annual training bonus.




The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement:  14.47% of salary for BU positions.  The value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly.  The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:


  • Level 1:  100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing):  $461.75 biweekly
  • Level 2:    95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):  $438.66 biweekly
  • Level 3:    90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):  $415.58 biweekly
  • Level 4:      85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $392.49 biweekly


*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
