The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees. OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.



The Office of Information Technology is seeking a Senior Information System Support Specialist with experience in Microsoft 365, Mobile Services and VMware. The CIS Services Team within the Office of Information Technology offers professional and technical enterprise services to agencies. The Team resides within the Computing Infrastructure & Services Group, which supports a wide range of applications utilizing Windows Server, Microsoft 365, VMware, Microsoft Teams, Exchange, Azure, Directory Services, SQL Server, IIS, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, SharePoint and other COTS products. Work is performed under limited supervision. This position is in Augusta. The CIS Group requires 24x7 server support. This position is required to participate in an On-Call rotation.



  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the Enterprise
  • Experience working with Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and Azure
  • Experience working with EMS (Enterprise Mobility Suite), Azure AD for Office 365 Identity - Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS/WAP) and Directory Synchronization (AADC/DirSync), eDiscovery, troubleshooting, design, and system delivery experience
  • Utilize knowledge of installs, upgrades, configures, tests, maintains, and support for operating system software in a production environment
  • Utilize knowledge of MDM Intune Management and Support and Office 365 integrated solutions
  • Develop future strategies for Office 365 products and services
  • Candidate must be eager to learn administration of the entire array of Office 365 products, including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Planner, Groups, and anything else that emerges
  • Partner with business units to evaluate and drive adoption of new capabilities for Office 365 and related tools, services, and systems
  • Maintain consistent, quality documentation to meet ongoing operations and business continuity requirements. Documentation will include system topologies, operating instructions, and disaster recovery procedures for new and changed infrastructure


Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • System Administrator and Subject Matter Expert for Email Services (Exchange Online) and Office Applications (Office 365) and OneDrive
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining O365 Exchange mailboxes, user accounts, distribution groups and establishes infrastructure mailbox constraints and advises on enterprise Exchange policies
  • Office 365 Exchange Online administration (domains, policies, transport rules, etc.)
  • Office 365 monitoring service health, removal of user accounts, and management of service requests
  • Office 365 Spam administration
  • Office 365 Licensing administration
  • Support the ongoing operation Microsoft Teams and other related services like OneNote, Groups & One Drive
  • Handle immediate need activities such as video conferencing setups, new employees joining and office reconfigurations
  • Conduct Gap Analysis Summary and prioritize remediation actions summary
  • PowerShell for migration and troubleshooting
  • Align Office 365 technology solutions with business strategies
  • Be accountable for the security and reliability of Exchange Online and Office 365 systems and services
  • Track and escalate incidents with Office 365 technical support
  • Power Platform Administration and support (PowerApps, Power Automate, PowerBI)
  • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager administration and support
  • VMware administration and support
  • Respond to help desk escalations
  • Implement hardware and software upgrades
  • Plan0 and execute growth and expansion
  • Manage and troubleshoot licensing issues if they arise
  • Interface with Microsoft Premier Technical Support to resolve any open support cases involving on premise or Cloud based email issues
  • Implement, develop, support, build, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments, both virtual and physical




  • Experience with Microsoft 365 in a corporate environment\government tenant
  • Experience in Microsoft Windows Server Administration, including Server 2012R2, 2016, 2019, and newer
  • Experience working to resolve problems or in implementing new solutions
  • Experience using a ticket management system for work prioritization and daily workload management
  • Experience with Virtualization

  • Knowledge of basic supervisory techniques

  • Ability to clearly document features, technical specifications, and infrastructure requirements for self-produced technical work and job processes

A minimum of 5 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience.

*Special preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:

Experience performing systems administration functions in a LAN/WAN environment -OR- an Associate’s Degree in computer information systems or directly related field.
