The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees.  OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.



The Office of Information Technology is seeking a Senior Technical Support Specialist with experience in administration of Microsoft 365, SharePoint, IIS, Exchange, Power Platform, Teams, Windows Server, and VMware.  The Computing Infrastructure & Services Group supports a wide range of applications utilizing Windows Server Hosting including Directory Services, SQL Server, IIS, SharePoint and other COTS products. Work is performed under limited supervision. This position is in Augusta. The CI&S Group provides 24x7 server support. This requires the position to participate in an on-call rotation.




  • Act as Technical lead within the group
  • Provide tier-3 support in an enterprise environment for a variety of technologies, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, IIS, Teams, Exchange, Power Platform, Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, Endpoint Manager, Defender, and Azure.
  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the Enterprise
  • Develop future strategies for cloud hosting and Microsoft 365 products and services
  • Learn administration of the entire array of M365 products, including any new products that emerges
  • Partner with business units to evaluate and drive adoption of new capabilities for M365 and related tools, services, and systems
  • Be responsible for overseeing, installing, diagnosing, maintaining, and administering Microsoft Windows server systems
  • Respond to help desk escalations
  • Hardware and software upgrades
  • Provide technical recommendations to the Director and Deputy Director of Computing Infrastructure & Services
  • Plan and execute growth and expansion
  • Technical resource to internal staff for best practices
  • Be responsible for recommending hardware and software purchasing and configuration for enterprise windows hosting server environments
  • Lead technical meetings
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation (Standard Operating Procedures) for all job-related activities
  • Interface with Microsoft Technical Support to resolve support cases
  • Provide monitoring and feedback for vendors for troubleshooting code upgrades and recommend fixes

  • Experience working to resolve problems or implementing new solutions
  • Experience using a ticket management system for work prioritization and daily workload management
  • Experience with Virtualization

  • Knowledge of cloud providers (Azure & AWS)
  • Understanding of common network protocols and virtualization networking
  • Understanding of current industry standards and best practices
  • Experience with Windows Server Performance Monitor and Network Monitor utilities
  • Experience with Windows Event Viewer and various applications logs and utilities
  • Knowledge of complex software applications on PC's, servers, and networks
  • Knowledge and Experience of DNS, DHCP, NETBIOS, SMB, LDAP, TCP/IP protocols
  • Ability to understand and contribute to functional requirements and translate them into technical design and development projects
  • Ability to clearly document features, technical specifications, and infrastructure requirements for self-produced technical work and job processes
  • Ability to develop and manage user-oriented computing activities
  • Ability to train personnel in all phases of computer utilization and application
  • Ability to communicate effectively

A minimum of 8 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience.  Related training, internship experience etc. may be credited as related experience on a month-per-month basis


Preference will be given to applicants with: Two (2) years’ experience performing SharePoint administration or experience performing systems administration functions in a LAN/WAN environment -OR- an associate degree in computer information systems or directly related field.
